An international company focused on personal care/consumer products has contacted Rutgers’ Office of Corporate Engagement with the goal of identifying a Rutgers PI/lab with an interest in a potential service agreement.
The company is investigating the characterization of malodorous compounds that are produced in their non-fragranced products. These compounds are usually at trace level and have strong olfactive character that interfere with the hedonics of the applied fragrances. They are typically generated by reactions such as transesterification, hydrolysis and oxidation of the individual components in the formulations composed of fatty oils.
The laboratory needs to have the capability of performing malodorous organic compounds characterization, specifically in characterization of low concentration of odor compounds as well as characterization of trace level fatty acids and fatty acids oxidation products.
